Chunks of ice have piled up near the edge of the Rock River in the Prophetstown State Park.
Ice Chunks Pile UpJanuary 31, 2018
Last Friday afternoon the Rock River between Lyndon and Prophetstown had several ice jams break free and move down river. As the jams moved through, the river rose 4-5 feet causing the water and ice to invade the Prophetstown State Park and closing it to traffic.
After the water receded it left behind huge chunks of ice. Several were 6-8 feet across and most measured about 8 inches thick. The chunks weigh between 500 and 2,500 pounds.
