The American Red Cross has a critical need for blood donors to give now to help address a winter blood donation shortage caused by severe winter weather in parts of the country and widespread flu. About 600 blood drives have been forced to cancel due to winter weather in 2018, causing more than 17,500 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected. While thousands of people have responded to the call for donations, severe winter weather in many parts of the country has prolonged the shortage. Donors in areas unaffected by the weather may be helping patients close to home or patients in areas where donors are unable to give because of severe winter weather. In addition to unfavorable weather, seasonal flu has contributed to very low turnout at many blood drives. If there is not a time slot available that works with your schedule, please contact me and I would be happy to make your appointment for you- email@example.com
The need for blood is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community. Nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every 2 to 3 seconds and most of us will need blood in our lifetime.
