The Prophet Pride Band Prepares for their performance in the IHSA Organizational Music Contest on Saturday.

Music Department Hosts IHSA Contest; Takes 3rd in State(video)

April 16, 2018

Friday and Saturday saw a dozen area schools visit the Prophetstown High School and Middle School campuses to perform in the 2018 IHSA organizational Music Contest.

The Prophet Pride Band, Jazz Band, and Jazz Combo all received first place ratings as did the PHS Concert Choir, Treble Choir, and Bass Choir.  Those ratings along with the points the musicians earned from the solo/ ensemble contest held several weeks ago gave the combined groups another top three finish in the Class C State Contest.

The Prophet Pride Band took first place in the Class C rankings with the choir tying for 18th.  The two groups combined to earn 573 points, good enough for third place, pending certification of results.  Chester High School took first in Class C with 708 points followed by Gillman (Iroquois West) with 630 points.

The two day event began on Friday afternoon and concluded on Saturday afternoon.  The music boosters helped run the event which include setting up the performance areas for each group.  Bands performed in the middle school gym with the band room used for warm-ups.  The PHS gym was the venue for the choirs and they used the choir room for their preparation.
