Parade and Activities Kick-Off the Holidays (Photos)00:00 AM November 26, 2017
It was a perfect afternoon and evening for the 32nd Annual Prophetstown Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday, which saw several thousand people descend on Main Street to enjoy the fun.
The afternoon started with children giving Santa and Mrs.Claus their wish lists at the Prophetstown Fire Station, The local Mason Lodge served up their chili and BBQ to hungry patrons during their annual fund raiser also at the fire station.
On Main Street children enjoyed rides on Percy The Train courtesy of Les Wilson of Victoria Grace Antiques and Accents on the north end of the street while Tony Troyer took wagon loads of folks down the south end of the street with his Arabian Carriage.
Face painting was happening at the Hanford -Schuneman Agency provided by Whimsy Pixie Paint with several independent vendors also selling their products.
A live Nativity was presented by the Advent Christian Church next to Shaw's Marketplace several times during the evening and people were able to stroll the street visiting businesses in celebration of Shop Small Saturday.
The Love Light Tree was lit at 5:30 with a program led by Cathy Hinrichs, with hundreds of people lighting candles and joining in singing Silent Night.
The evening was capped off with the parade which featured almost 70 judged entries and 7 tons of candy. Santa and Mrs. Claus closed the parade as the rode down the street on a fire truck wishing all a very Merry Christmas.
