Obituary – Brenda S. Ward, 61, of Prophetstown died Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the University Hospital in Iowa City rather unexpectedly.

She was born on April 13, 1963 in Sterling, the daughter of Rick L. and Mary (Woodson) Allen, and was a 1981 graduate of Rock Falls High School and Illinois State University in 1985. She married Mark Ward on April 5, 1986 in Rock Falls.

Brenda had worked in health information management at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo, CGH Medical Center in Sterling, and then remotely for Kiwi-Tek. Brenda took pride in the fact she was a credentialed RHIA. She was a member of Leon United Methodist Church. She had served in the past as a 4-H leader with the Leon Wide-Awakes, the P-L-T Parents For Students, and overall was an avid supporter of Meghan and Ethan’s schools and sporting events at the Prophetstown Schools, St. Ambrose University, and University of Illinois.

She loved and cared for her family first and foremost, always worrying and making sure they were taken care of. She was a dedicated Elvis Presley fan her whole life and shared that joy with others who felt the same. She enjoyed meeting up with her co-workers from throughout the country and world at summer vacations, as much as she loved her favorite color-purple. Meeting with her and Mark’s friends for dinner was always a highlight of her month. In the just shy of 2 years they had together, her and her grandson Stetson would have the best of times. He was the light of her life, she loved reading to him, watching him ride his bull while wearing his cowboy hat, and blowing kisses.

Survivors include her husband, Mark; daughter Dr. Meghan Ward of Sterling; son Ethan (Kayla) Ward of Carmel, IN; her mother Mary (Steve) Nichols of Rock Falls; her brother Robert (Cheryl) Allen of Sterling; and her grandson Stetson Ward. Also survived by numerous brother-in laws, sister-in laws, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Rick Allen.

Private family funeral services will be held. Burial will conclude at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for friends and family to celebrate Brenda. Arrangements entrusted to McDonald Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
