Taylor Skromme is an exceptional young woman who has always been independent, according to her mother. Following her December graduation for Prophetstown High School she plans on attending Sauk Valley Community College and then transferring to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale this fall to earn a degree as a physical therapist assistant.
She won’t be alone in Carbondale as she is taking a long her best friend, Ace. Ace, is her barrel racing horse which she has ridden for the past three years and the two just finished a tremendous season.
Growing up around horses and riding competitively since the age of 10, Taylor has emerged as one of the best barrel razors in the region taking first in the Illinois youth division and second in the open division as well as taking first in both the youth and open divisions in the National Barrel Horse Association's District Competition.
Not only does she race but she holds down several part-time jobs in addition to training horses for other riders. Oh, and she can drive a truck and horse trailer through Chicago traffic!
Taylor qualified for the world finals in Georgia for the third straight year, but unfortunately continued her streak of bad luck at that event.
She talks about her season and her future.
