E-waste Recycling Returning

07:30 AM April 15, 2019

The city of Prophetstown will reinstate e-waste recycling beginning this Saturday, April 20th at the city garage on East Railroad Street.  The program has been tweaked this year in order to ensure city residents are the only ones using the free service. Anyone dropping off items will need to prove residency with a photo ID and a city water bill.  Public Works Director Brian Strike says this will help ensure that non-residents do not participate in the program.

Other changes to the service will include bi-monthly drop-offs.  Future dates are June 15th, August 17th, and October 19th.  Electronics will only be accepted from 9:00 AM-Noon on those dates and an attendant must be on duty to accept the items.  Due to a change in the pick-up service, items will be stored on site in a newly constructed storage area behind the city garage which will also be used to store impounded vehicles.

The city plans on installing a video surveillance system to monitor the area.
