The Erie and Prophetstown volleyball teams have both held fundraisers over the years for the CGH Health Foundation to help support breast cancer prevention.  This past season, the first for combing the two programs, the Panthers raised an astounding $6,100 to donate from their Volley for the Cure breast cancer event.

The team recently presented their gift to Joan Hermes, executive director of the CGH Health Foundation Women's Health Program. This year's event was dedicated in memory of Peggy Kuelper and in honor of Ann Schipper.

The team raised funds through various means the night of their match with Newman, holding auctions, raffles, and t-shirt sales.  Hermes told the team," We help a lot of people. You make a ripple that goes across the whole Sauk Valley area with your big hearts."  The foundation began a program in 1993 to help provide free mammograms for women.  She added that the program is one of a few in the state that are self funded through efforts like those of the Panthers.  The program provides up to 500 free mammograms a year to women in the Sauk area.

Hermes also shared the importance of breast health with Panther team members stressing that a healthy lifestyle now will benefit them greatly in the future.
