STERLING – Is your New Year’s resolution to learn something new, take up a new hobby or enjoy more local entertainment? Woodlawn Arts Academy has you covered with winter programming for all ages!

The Academy is partnering for the third year with Dixon Public Schools to present a winter musical. “Seussical Jr.” will be performed Friday, January 19th at 7pm and Saturday, January 20th at 2pm and 7pm at the Dixon High School Auditorium. Admission is just $6. Tickets are on sale beginning December 26th (cash or check only) at Woodlawn Arts Academy and Reagan Middle School. The show is directed by Brooks Bullock, with music direction by Mardi Huffstutler. Faith Morrison is the assistant director, and Ashley Aurand is the stage director.

Also in January, the Academy’s private music students will perform in two free recitals on Saturday, January 27th. The recitals will be at 10am and 2pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, at the corner of LeFevre and 16th Avenue in Sterling. Students ages 4 through adult will perform instrumental and vocal pieces during both recitals.

Preschool families are invited to the Academy’s next free Preschool Parent Workshop at 5:30pm Thursday, January 18th. Woodlawn Preschool teachers, along with other area teachers and administrators, will discuss mental and physical health of preschoolers. Registration for the workshop is not required; however, please call if you are in need of childcare, which will be offered for just $5 per child at the Academy during the one-hour workshop.

The Winter Art Exhibit at the Academy features quilts. The artworks are on display in the halls and lounge at the Academy until February 9th and there is no charge to view the exhibit. It is open to the public during regular business hours.

The next session of classes and private lessons begins the week of January 29th. Classes are available in visual arts, music, theatre, woodworking, culinary arts and domestic arts. While the school-year dance program is already in full swing, little princesses ages 4-7 are invited to the Frozen Fairytale Ball on Saturday, January 6th, where they will learn a dance, feast on a delicious treat and create a masterpiece to hang in their castles. Registration is available online at, in person or by calling (815) 626-4278.
