The EP middle school wrestling team had a tremendous showing over the weekend at the IESA State Finals in Dekalb.  The team sent six wrestlers and came home with four medals, including a state champion.

 

8th grader Clay Hockaday wrestling in the 275# weight class pinned his way to first place as he won all four of his matches by fall.  The duration of his matches were:  :18, 1:20, 1:17, and 3:42.

 

Fellow 8th grader Jace Grunder took second place in the 105# category falling in the championship match to Brock Smith, of Riverdale 7-5.

 

75# Wyatt Goossens (6th) and 112# Tyler Ballard (8th)  both brought home 5th place medals.

 

Jacob Gibson (7th) and Parker Rangel (6th) also qualified for the meet but did not place.

 

The team placed 9th out of 73 teams represented with 72.5 points.

 

Retiring coach Tom Unruh was honored at the tournament leading the parade of champions as one of the Grand Marshals.
