Hammer Gets 1,000; Panthers Win

15:37 PM January 05, 2019

Josh Hammer scored his 1,000th career point on a free throw at the end of the Panther's game against Monmouth United in the Carl Sandburg Shoot Out at Galesburg on Saturday afternoon.  Hammer came into the contest needing 17 points to hit the 1K mark. He ended the game with 18.  Hammer is the first player to reach 1K points in a Panther uniform and the 4th in Erie basketball history.

The game with Monmouth was tight throughout as the Red Storm was on fire from the three-point line hitting 10 from long distance.  While the storm owned the outside EP's Eric Robinson owned the inside as he dropped in a career high 31.

Monmouth owned a 21-20 lead after the first quarter with EP going to the locker room up 36-34 at the half.  The teams continued to play even the rest of the way with Hammer hitting two free throws, including his 1,000 point, with about 1 minute to go to give the Panthers a two-point advantage.  Monmouth tied the game, but Eric Robinson hit the game winner with 10 seconds left.

The Panthers move to 10-5 on the season and travel to Bureau Valley on Tuesday.
