The hardware store on Prophetstown's Main Street has been in the Dud Drummet family since 1958. The store is currently owned and operated by Drummet's sons Dan and Dave, but that will change in April. After a few years of seeking a buyer without success, the Drummets have reached an agreement to sell the business and building to Keith Crady of Prophetstown.
Crady said that when he heard the store was up for sale, but the Drummets were having no luck finding a serious buyer, he quipped to Dan Drummet that if no one else would buy it and keep it open, he would. At the time he considered it an off-handed comment, but fate intervened and he is now the proud owner. Officially Crady takes over on April 15th.
Crady recently retired and will use the store to " keep me busy." He will also have his son Adam and daughter-in-law, Nicky helping run the business.
Crady took a trip to the annual United Hardware (Hardware Hank) trade show in January to see if he would be a good fit in the hardware business. He decided to give it a shot and in February the two parties agreed on a deal and the details are now being finalized.
Crady said there may be a few changes in the future including additional sales space and perhaps a name change.
