Each year the local Daughters of the American Revolution, Rock River Chapter, sponsors a Good Citizenship and Scholarship Contest Program. One student is selected who best represents the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. This year’s recipient is Ms. Hannah McKinney, daughter of Heather and Jason Rangel of Lyndon.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization with a deeply rich history. More than 930,000 women have joined the organization since it was founded close to 125 years ago. During that century plus, the members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated themselves to historical preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotic endeavor.

Hannah completed a timed essay on the topic of "How America has advanced the cause of freedom in the rest of the world." The essay will be judged toward the scholarship competition.

Hannah is to be commended on possessing the traits that earned her the nomination as the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Recipient for 2017-2018.
