Oscar E. Koenig

Oscar E. Koenig, age 91, died Monday April 23, 2018 at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown.


Oscar was born on May 21, 1926 on the family farm in Tampico the son of Robert and Carlene (VonHolten) Koenig. His father died when he was 13. Oscar stayed home to run the farm. He was owner operator of Evergreen Lawn Farms, Tampico specializing in Dairy as well as Registered Holstein Breeding Stock and Grain Production. He later attended


Sterling High School as an adult earning his GED. Oscar attended Sauk Valley Community College taking one class at a time for 16 years earning 2 Associates degrees with High Honors. He served 12 years on the Sauk Valley College Board and nearly 50 years as Financial Secretary on the church council of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. Oscar loved to travel having visited every continent but Antarctica.


Survivors include several cousins; close friends and devoted farm hands he considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wilma Koenig.


Gathering of family and friends will be from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM Saturday, April 28, 2017 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rock Falls. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 AM at the church with Reverend Bree Truax officiating. Private burial at Yorktown Cemetery will be held at a later date.


Arrangements were completed by the Garland Funeral Home, Tampico. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent to www.garlandfuenralhome.com
