One of the reason that the Erie and Prophetstown school districts voted to approve a co-op that would include all extra-curricular activities was to give students additional opportunities by introducing activities that were previously not offered. One of the new activities that was voted in by students was bowling. Despite the lack of a bowling alley in either district the EP Co-op Board of Control worked out the details and gave an opportunity to 25 students, of which the vast majority had not previously participated in an activity. The team practiced at Hill Top lanes in Morrison three days a week and made huge strides during the season according to coaches Chad Miner and Angie Howell.
The inaugural boys and girls E/P Panthers bowling season concluded on January 21st, with the girls participating in the MLK Invite hosted by Sterling. The girls competed in this tournament and 5 other meets against athletes from Oregon, Kewanee, Sterling, and St. Bede. The boys competed in meets against Oregon, Sterling, and St. Bede.
The inaugural season was completed as a club sport and the hope is to become an IHSA sport for the 2019 - 2020 school year. The two school boards will discuss this topic in the coming months and make a decision.
