Prophetstown Elementary School honored those who volunteered at their school this year with entertainment and ice cream last Friday The volunteers gathered in the gym where they were serenaded by the pre-K through 3rd graders with songs and poems. Music teacher Sara Naftzger directed the performances.
Volunteer Coordinator Joanie Stewart told the gathering that volunteers recorded 535 hours of time at the school during the year. The helpers do a myriad of tasks for the students and teachers. Activities with students include reading together, working on writing their name, letters, numbers, and help check out books. For teachers they help tear out math book pages and collect school library books. In addition, they prep projects for teachers throughout the year.
Principal Justin Hovey said, "Besides our daily volunteers, others work the book fair, help with picture day, and Reading Carnival to name a few. Kudos to Mrs. Stewart for orchestrating our Volunteer program! It is an excellent program that is imperative to our growth and success!"
