Prophetstown Replaces Squad Car

The Prophetstown City Council approved the replacement of one of the police department's squad cars during their January meeting. Police Chief Bruce Franks requested the purchase of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria to replace the department’s 2007 Crown Victoria which is used by part-time officers. Franks plans on assigning the new vehicle to the department's new school resource officer when they are hired. No new additional equipment will be needed for the squad as it will be transferred from the old vehicle.

 

In other action the Council approved authorizing sealed bids for property owned by the city located at 510 Washington St. Bids will be accepted until noon on February 12 and opened that evening during the council’s regular meeting.

 

Approved the rezoning of property owned by Aaron and Billy Joe Egan located at 612 Grove St. from R-1 to A-1. The city’s planning and zoning commission had made a recommendation to approve the change.

 

Held a brief discussion about the upcoming bidding process for the sidewalk project in the 200 block of Washington Street. The hope is that bids on the project will be let in March.

 

Library- Henry C. Adams library reported that their new winter hours have been well received by the public. The book club which meets monthly is seeking additional members. Plans are underway for summer activities.

 

Main Street- reported that they will be holding a trivia night at Prophet Hills Country Club on February 23. Additional information can be found on their Facebook page or website.
