The Rock River decided to provide some sightseeing entertainment on Friday afternoon as a large ice flow made its way around the bend in the river at Prophetstown.
The jam had formed between Lyndon and Prophetstown over the past few days causing the river to rise significantly at the point of the jam. About 2:15 the ice broke free and began move its way down river causing the State Park to be temporarily closed. Prophetstown Police Chief Bruce Franks said the water rose between 4 and 5 feet in a mater of 20 minutes as the jam passed by.
The sight of the ice moving was breathtaking as it stretched from bank to bank and moved with incredible speed.
