Woodlawn Arts Academy Presents Disney’s ‘Mulan Jr.’ April 6-8

STERLING – Woodlawn Arts Academy proudly presents their spring musical, Disney’s “Mulan Jr.” April 6-8 in the Jerry Mathis Theater at Sauk Valley Community College. The show runs at 7pm Friday, April 6th, 2pm and 7pm Saturday, April 7th, and 2pm Sunday, April 8th. Tickets are $6 each and go on sale at 9a.m. Monday, March 19th in the main office at the Academy. Only cash and checks are accepted for tickets. All seating is general admission.

 

“Mulan Jr.” features the talents of area students in grades 5-8 from Dixon, Sterling, Rock Falls, Polo, Franklin Grove, Prophetstown and Erie. The show is directed by Faith Morrison, with music direction by Mardi Huffstutler and stage direction by Ashley Aurand. Assistant Director is Dawn Arndt.

 

“We are so excited about the upcoming production of ‘Mulan Jr.,’” said Morrison. “We have an amazing cast of students who bring energy and fun to the stage. All of the directors are so proud of them and cannot wait for the community to see them perform!”

 

Returning to the Academy in June is a summer theatre intensive. The camp, for those finishing grades 3-8, will meet Monday-Thursday mornings with performances the weekend of June 29th. The Huns have invaded, and it is up to the misfit Mulan and her mischievous dragon sidekick, Mushu, to save the Emperor! Defying the village matchmaker, Mulan takes up arms and disguises herself as a boy in order to spare her father from having to serve in the army. As the great battle with the Huns approaches, Mulan must choose between revealing her true identity as a girl or saving all of China with her clever plan.
