Food Historian Cynthia Clampitt to Visit Tampico Area Historical Society

Submitted

On Tuesday April 23, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. the Tampico Area Historical Society will be visited by author, food historian, speaker and traveler Cynthia Clampitt. Through a grant opportunity from Illinois Humanities they were able to bring this creative knowledge and expertise into the community.

Tampico Area Historical Society has had some great presentations this year from local travelers, leaders, and historians— and Tampico Area Historical Society has been ecstatic and grateful for those opportunities! Now an outsider is coming to the village—a traveler and writer who explores historical communities and food along the way.

Let’s ensure Miss Clampitt receives a warm welcome to Tampico! She has visited 37 countries on 6 continents and, in recent years, has focused increasingly on the American Midwest in her writing.

On Tampico Area Historical Society’s Facebook page, a picture of three of her books with a synopsis of each and a YouTube interview she has done are included. The topic for this event, “Cynthia Clampitt: How Corn Changed Itself and Then Changed Everything Else,” aligns with her book “Midwest Maize.” All books can be purchased on Amazon, and Tampico Area Historical Society has requested she bring a few copies during her visit.

Also, please check out the website and Facebook page for Illinois Humanities. If you are an educator or interested in sharing in the arts, many interesting topics and connections can be found by following along with their page.

Thank you, Tampico, former Tampicoians, and the surrounding communities, for following Tampico Area Historical Society’s events. Tampico Area Historical Society hopes to see you there!
