In the third round of matches at the IHSA Girls State Wrestling Finals, both EP wrestlers, Michelle Naftzger and Roz Mosher, had to win to stay in medal contention. For the senior, Naftzger it was a win and on to Saturday’s action and for the freshman, Mosher, it was the end of a tremendous season.
Mosher went up against Ariel Woodfin who was the #9 seed and was unable to get out of an initial takedown but refused to be pinned for over a minute, working to keep her shoulders off the mat. Woodfin eventually got the pin and Mosher’s season came to a close.
Naftzger looked very strong at the outset of her match and worked her aggressiveness into an 11 point lead before getting the win by fall in the third period.
The four-time state finalist will now return to the mat on Saturday morning in the match that will determine if she gets into the medal round or finishes her high school career.
