Visitors could stop by anytime between 9 a.m. and noon to fill to-go boxes with their own selection of homemade cookies, candies, fudge, and holiday sweets. There was a delightful variety of Christmas confections to choose from, and PAHS volunteers were on standby to restock treats and ensure a fresh selection.
After filling a container, PAHS volunteers weighed the treats on an old-fashioned scale. The suggested donation was $8 per pound, with all funds to help maintain the museum and Asa Crook House. The cookies and candies were donated by generous volunteer bakers from the community.
Treasurer Glenna Spotts said PAHS did very well at the sale, almost identical to last year’s figures. “We did have some cookies and candy left at the end of the sale,” she said with the hopes that more from the community will support the sale next year. They’re happy they met their fundraising goal while having a busy day at the museum.
The historical museum at 302 Washington St. will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, January 6 through December 2024. There is always a chair, conversation, coffee, and snacks for visitors. The museum is full of fascinating displays and unique pieces of historical Prophetstown and surrounding area.
PAHS is always looking for new members, which costs $10 per person or $15 per couple. Meetings are held the second Saturday of the month from 9-10 a.m. If you are interested, please join them during open hours or contact Fred South, Jeff Dever, Janet Goodell, or Glenna Spotts.
