The EP Panther pole vault program continued its long run of taking a spot on the medal stand at the IHSA State Track and Field Finals on Saturday as Nathan Punke and Carson Eyrich both earned spots in the pole vault finals.

The pair earned spots in the finals after making the final field of twelve on Thursday.

Punke tied for fifth clearing 4.10m (13′ 5 1/4″) with teammate Eyrich placing eighth clearing the same height but finished behind Punke based on the number of misses.

While both had hoped for a higher spot in the final standings their continued improvement throughout the season and over the past few season has them setting their sights on next year’s finals. Punke placed ninth as a sophomore.

Punke set his PB of 14′ 2 3/4 at the Ed Schmidt Classic on April 24th in Erie, which was over one foot better than last season. Eyrich’s best of 13′ 9 1/4″ came at last week’s sectional. He improved his best effort by nineteen inches over last year.
