Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Announces Change in Policing Services for Albany

Submitted

The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office has announced a change in police services for the Village of Albany.

Effective at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, the Village of Erie Police Department began handling police calls for service within the Village of Albany.

For the past several months, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office has responded to emergency calls and provided law enforcement assistance to the Village of Albany while Village officials worked to establish police services. During this time, Whiteside County deputies made sure the residents of Albany continued to have law enforcement available when needed.

As of August 17th, Whiteside County deputies were no longer the primary agency handling calls for service within the Village of Albany. Those calls will now be handled by the Erie Police Department.

There is no change in how Albany residents request police assistance. All emergency and non-emergency requests for a police officer should continue to be made through the Whiteside County 911 Communications Center using the same telephone numbers currently in place. Calls for police service within the Village of Albany will be dispatched to the Erie Police Department beginning August 17th.

The announcement was issued by John F. Booker, Sheriff of the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office.
