EP Panther athletes Max Milem and Lauren Abbott signed to take their athletic and academic skills to UW-Platteville next year at a ceremony on Thursday in the Erie High School Media Center. Abbott will play volleyball for the Pioneers and Milem will be a member of the football team.

Abbott was a unanimous first team TRAC All-Conference selection in volleyball for the past two seasons and also earned TRAC Honorable Mention recognition during the recently concluded basketball season.

“I could not be more proud of Lauren for her commitment to UW-Platteville,” said EP head volleyball coach, Rachel Bramm. “I’m so grateful that I had the privilege of coaching Lauren in both club and high school, and from those experiences I know that she has a very bright future playing collegiate volleyball. Lauren has been such an amazing member of the EP volleyball program for the past 4 years, and we can’t wait to see what she can accomplish at UW-Platteville!”

Milem incurred a serious knee injury last summer, which limited his mobility in football and kept him off the basketball court this past season. Despite the injury EP Panther head football coach, Tyler Whitebread envisions a bright future for the senior. “Max is not afraid of working hard. Throughout my time at EP Football, I don’t think I’ve seen someone physically change as much as Max. Most of these changes came from his commitment to the weight room. He focused on adding good weight to prepare him for the grind of a football season. I look forward to seeing his development at the college level. He continues to rehab his knee with focus and intensity, and I’m expecting a full recovery.”

Whitebread also sees Milem’s football IQ has a huge strength. “Max was one of the smartest players I’ve been around, so he will pickup scheme at the college level quickly. He routinely helped teammates line up correctly or helped them understand their job in a particular play.”

The two seniors were joined by their families, friends, and teammates at the ceremony.
