Bia’s journey began when he and his littermates were surrendered to Happy Tails at just 3 weeks old after their mother abandoned them. At the time, Bia weighed only 7 ounces and required around-the-clock bottle feeding and care. A dedicated foster volunteer cared for him until he was 8 weeks old, helping him grow into the healthy, playful kitten he is today.
Now neutered and ready for adoption, Bia has a friendly personality that makes him an excellent companion for families. He enjoys playing but also loves to curl up for snuggles once he has burned off his energy. Michelle said Bia gets along well with adults, children, other cats, and even dogs, making him a great choice for first-time cat owners or families looking to add another feline to their home. His unique markings, especially on his paws, make him even more distinctive.
Bia is one of many kittens currently available at Happy Tails during the busy kitten season. The shelter currently has nearly 20 kittens between its two kitten rooms, with foster families playing a crucial role in caring for the youngest animals until they are old enough for adoption.
Anyone interested in adopting Bia can complete an adoption application online or at the shelter. Once approved, visitors are welcome to meet Bia as well as the other cats and kittens during normal shelter hours without needing an appointment.
Michelle also encouraged community members who may not be ready to adopt to consider fostering. Prospective foster families complete the same application used for adoption, so Happy Tails can find an animal that is a good fit for their home. The shelter provides food, veterinary care, and other supplies while the animal is in foster care, and if a family decides the pet belongs with them permanently, they have the opportunity to adopt.
The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. That fee includes spaying or neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip with 24PetWatch registration, and other essential veterinary care. Dogs adopted through Happy Tails are also heartworm tested before going to their new homes. Michelle noted that the adoption fee does not cover the full cost of the care each animal receives but helps make pet ownership more affordable while benefiting the animals.
Happy Tails continues to serve the community through its weekly low-cost spay and neuter clinic, including its Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program for community cats. Cats participating in the program receive spay or neuter surgery, a rabies vaccination, an ear tip for identification, and a tattoo before being returned to their outdoor homes, helping reduce the local feral cat population.
With veterinary costs continuing to rise, Happy Tails is asking for community support to help sustain its programs. Donations can be made through the organization’s website, via Venmo, or in person. The shelter also has an immediate need for Purina ONE Healthy Kitten dry food to help feed the large number of kittens currently in its care.
Because Happy Tails relies entirely on donations, every contribution helps provide medical care, food and shelter for homeless animals while supporting important programs that benefit pets and the community.
Those interested in meeting Bia or any of the other adoptable animals are encouraged to visit Happy Tails Humane Society during regular business hours.
