Volleyball Panthers Dominate Newman

The Lady Panther volleyball team looked fresh after six days off as they polished off the Newman Lady Comets in straight sets by identical 25-12 scores on Monday night in Sterling.

EP was especially strong at the net as they blocked multiple shots during the match.

The Panthers built a 6-2 lead to start the opening set with Newman never able to get closer than 3 points during the set. EP continued to grow their lead going up 11-5 before the Comets called time. The break did little to slow EP’s momentum as they continued to dominate outscoring the hosts 14-7 the rest of the set.

The second set was almost a duplicate of the first as EP led 10-4 early. Leading 16-7, Newman showed some life as they went on a 4-0 run to make it a 17-11 game. The Panthers responded with an 8-1 stretch to closeout the set and match.

“Coming off a tough loss last week, the girls bounced back in dominant fashion by securing a decisive two set win over a very scrappy Newman squad,” said coach Rachel Bramm. “We talked before the game about putting together a well-rounded, consistent performance tonight, and the team did just that. Our block established its presence early in the match, which set the tone for the defensive effort all night. Then on the other side of the ball, we had several girls who performed very efficiently on offense. This was a great way to start out a very busy week of volleyball, and we’re looking to carry this momentum into our games later this week including contests against Hall tomorrow night and Riverdale Thursday.”

With the victory EP climbs to 12-5-2 with Newman falling to 8-9.

The Lady Panthers have a busy week as they travel to Hall on Tuesday and Riverdale on Thursday.
