On this episode of Along the Rock, host Kierstyn Long welcomes Community Service Officer Mary Toth and Officer Lucas Nease from the Sterling Police Department to share what families can expect at this year’s celebration.
The event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 30 at the downtown pavilion of the Sterling Farmers Market in downtown Sterling. The covered pavilion provides a convenient location for families and participating vendors, with overhead protection in case of rain. Its designated spaces also allow participating vehicles to back into assigned spots and set up their Halloween displays.
Families attending the event can look forward to plenty of candy, games, giveaways, and opportunities to connect with local law enforcement officers. Main Squeeze will also be on-site selling its popular drinks, adding another treat for visitors to enjoy.
Sterling Police Department officers will be stationed at the main table, where families can pick up their bags before making their way through the Trunk or Treat displays. Officers will be in uniform to make it easy for children and parents to identify them throughout the event.
Community Service Officer Mary Toth is the contact person for the event and can answer questions from families interested in attending. Those with questions can reach her at mtoth@sterling-il.gov.
Although the department typically welcomes local businesses, nursing homes, organizations, and other community groups to sign up as participating vendors, all vendor spaces for this year’s event have already been filled. The strong response reflects the community’s enthusiasm for the annual tradition. Those interested in participating in future years are encouraged to reach out early, as spaces tend to fill quickly.
Beyond the candy and Halloween displays, the event provides families with an opportunity to enjoy trick-or-treating in a controlled, community-focused setting. With all the activities located in one area, children and families can move between displays without having to cross streets, helping make the evening a safer and more convenient Halloween experience.
One special guest is also expected to make an appearance. Millie, a familiar favorite at the event, will be attending again this year. Her costume is still being finalized, with plans for a matching look alongside her handler. Families can stop by to see what Halloween costume Millie will be wearing while enjoying the festivities.
With candy, games, refreshments, community connections, and a special appearance from Millie, the Sterling Police Department’s Trunk or Treat promises an afternoon of Halloween excitement for local families.
