After taking a year off to work and consider his future options, Goossens received an opportunity at ICJC in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
In February 2025, Goossens finished his high school career capturing 3rd place in the Class 1A 157 pound category at the IHSA Wrestling State Finals. He finished his senior season with 45-9 record and a career mark of 145-30.
He said he had not looked into junior colleges when he was looking at schools during his senior year. The Prophetstown native did receive some offers some NAIA and NCAA D-III school but most of the offers still left him with a large tuition bill.
Goossens said he took a year off to try and find a college program that he felt was affordable and would challenge his wrestling skills. While researching options he spent the year working on a farm and served as a volunteer coach for the EP wrestling program to stay in shape.
Last January he decided to continue wrestling at the next level and during a wrestling tournament over the summer one of his coaches suggested Iowa Central and got the wrestler in touch with the school. “I started looking at JUCOs because it’s just two years, is cheaper, and then I can see how things look for the future.”
The Triton’s wrestling program has won nine National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships and for the eighth time in program history captured the NJCAA Coaches Association Duals National Championship last season.

“They are a pretty solid program and took third at the National Finals last year,” said Goossesns. “They move several wrestlers to bigger schools each year.”
The compettion on the Triton’s squad will be intense with 50 athletes on the roster competing for 10 weight classes. Goossens plans on competing at 165 pounds.
Practice begins October 1st with business major excited to get back on the mat. “There is an open spot on the roster at 165 and I feel I have a good chance,” said Goossens.
