Hartig Drug Company, a community pharmacy organization in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa is proud to announce that its Prophetstown location will pilot a program to assess and dispense oral contraceptives (OCs) directly to patients. This initiative marks an important milestone in expanding access to contraception and empowering individuals in the local community to take control of their reproductive health.
Recognizing the evolving role of pharmacists in healthcare, Hartig Drug Company is at the forefront of innovation by participating in this pilot program. The Prophetstown location is dedicated to providing exceptional care and services to its customers, and this initiative further demonstrates their commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its rural community.
Under the pilot program, licensed pharmacists at Hartig Drug Company in Prophetstown will undergo specialized training and obtain the necessary certifications to assess patients’ suitability for oral contraceptives. By conducting comprehensive assessments, pharmacists will evaluate a patient’s medical history, perform blood pressure measurements, and provide relevant counseling to ensure the safe and effective use of contraception.

Moreover, pharmacists’ expertise in medication management and patient counseling will ensure the highest level of safety and efficacy. They will educate patients on the proper usage of oral contraceptives, potential side effects, and the importance of consistent use for maximum effectiveness. By offering comprehensive care and information, Hartig Drug Company aims to empower patients to make informed decisions about their health.
This pilot program represents an important step toward a future where pharmacists play an expanded role in reproductive healthcare. Hartig Drug Company is confident that this initiative will not only benefit the local community but also serve as a model for other pharmacies across the state and the country.
