“I truly love being the pharmacist in my hometown,” is how Hartig Drug of Prophetstown’s new pharmacist, Nicole Heun responded about her new position at the Main Street store.
A 2012 graduate of Prophetstown High School, Nicole (nee Johnson) had worked at the store over a few summers while attending college. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Clarke University in Dubuque and then attended the University of Illinois-Chicago/Rockford for Pharmacy school graduating from the rural pharmacy program (RPHARM) in 2019.
She married John Heun from Erie with the couple spending a few years in Georgia with John serving in the U.S. Army before returning to the area. The young family, which includes a 2 year old daughter, Lydia, now lives in rural Erie with John engaged in farming on his family’s farm.
Nicole is the daughter of Meredith and Doug Johnson of Prophetstown, with many residents getting to know her Mom when she operated Blooms-a-Latte on Prophetstown’s Main Street and continues her career as a Women’s Health NP at CGH. Her dad, Doug, is a farmer with the couple planning on opening a new farm related business in the near future.
Prophetstown Pharmacy actually runs in the family as Nicole shared that her great great grandfather, Frank Cleveland, was the pharmacist in Prophetstown at one time.
Away from work she says she loves to travel, try new food and wines. Also love to shop in all our local boutiques.
Having worked at other health facilities, Nicole says she is now where she wants to be. “My heart is in community pharmacy and my future plans are honestly to stay here at Hartig.”
A Hartig Company spokesperson said, “With a passion for patient care and a commitment to our community’s well-being, Nicole is here to serve you. Whether you need expert advice on medications, a friendly face to answer your questions, or simply a welcoming smile, Nicole is your go-to person.”
