Church volunteers and firefighters served 400 to-go meals that included grilled brats parboiled in beer and spices, homemade garden pasta salad, bags of chips, and a fresh cookie baked by Resthave Home. The firefighters handed out the meals by the produce table, with diners encouraged to drive-up and go or park and enjoy outdoor dining in the church yard.
Pastor Mike Selburg reported that community businesses, organizations and philanthropists donated funds, a quarter cost of the brats, beer and charcoal to cook the brats, buns, brat sleeves, pasta, containers and lids for the past, lunch bags and all the cookies, with $616 leftover after purchasing the rest of the food. Additional donations from diners totaled $1,691.70, with $7.70 from some young boys “with a lot of change wanting to support the fire department.” Donations from the First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, IL and members were $700, for a grand total of $3,000!

“This year was our greatest turnout of Morrison community support for sponsorships,” said Pastor Selburg. “Thank you all very much for supporting your local fire department! So much was donated that after all the meal expenses, we had $616 left over. This means 100% of donations will go directly to MFD and we’ll add that number on top of that! Well done, Morrison!”
