With school back in session, the Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone to use extra caution on our roadways. Please slow down in school zones, watch for children walking or riding bicycles, and always be prepared to stop for school buses. A few extra seconds of patience can make a big difference in keeping our children safe.
Parents, please take a few minutes to remind your children about staying aware of their surroundings, using designated crossings, and never approaching or accepting a ride from someone they do not know. Parents are also encouraged to talk with their children about responsible use of social media and the importance of reporting anything that makes them feel unsafe.
Deputies will be out and visible throughout the county as the school year begins. School safety is a responsibility we all share, and the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with schools, parents, students, and communities to provide a safe environment for everyone.
And of course, with school starting back up, that means football season is here too! Whether you’re cheering on one of our local high school teams, your favorite college team, or the Chicago Bears, enjoy the season, support our student-athletes, and stay safe on Friday nights.
To all of our students: work hard, make good decisions, look out for one another, and have a safe and successful school year!
And one last thing… GO BEARS!
Sheriff John F. Booker
