Along the Rock: From Strangers to Sisters – How Generations Woven is Connecting Women Through Conversations

Hosted by Kierstyn Long, Article by Sara Bellows

On this episode of Along the Rock, host Kierstyn Long welcomes Tasha Garcia, Nerina Human, and Judy Randall from Generation Woven, a podcast and community focused on helping women connect, grow, and navigate life's challenges together.

The story of Generation Woven began with an unexpected combination of friendships, family connections, and a shared desire to help women. Judy and Nerina first became friends in 2022, while Tasha had known Judy years earlier through school and later reconnected with her through a family connection.

When Tasha expressed that she wanted to find a way to help women, Judy invited her to dinner with Nerina. The three women quickly discovered a common vision. Within a short time, the idea for a podcast emerged, and Generation Woven began taking shape.

The name reflects the way their lives and experiences became intertwined. Each woman brings a different generation, background, and perspective to the conversations, creating a space where those differences become a strength.

Learning to Be Authentic

One of the central themes of Generation Woven is authenticity.

The women recognize that there can be tremendous pressure to appear perfect, polished, and put together. Their podcast instead embraces the reality that people stumble, learn, change, and sometimes simply have to laugh at themselves.

As they look back at their earliest episodes, they can see how much they have grown. Their comfort with being vulnerable and authentic has developed over time, and they have noticed that audiences respond to that openness.

The goal is not to connect with everyone. Instead, Generation Woven focuses on reaching women who see something of themselves in the conversations and experiences being shared.

Conversations About Growth

Generation Woven’s episodes are built around themes rather than rigid scripts. The women may choose a topic such as letting go, growth, or navigating difficult situations, then allow the conversation to develop naturally.

Their discussions often explore where people become stuck and how they can begin moving forward. Topics can range widely, including the difference between facts and feelings, personal growth, and the ways people navigate the world around them.

The women have also found themselves returning to subjects they discussed earlier in the podcast, but with a new perspective. As they have grown and changed, familiar topics can lead to deeper conversations.

That evolution is part of the message they hope to share. Women are not stuck where they are, and changing direction can be part of personal growth.

Building Connections Through Coffee and Connections

Beyond the podcast, Generation Woven has created Coffee and Connections, an in-person gathering designed to bring women together for authentic conversation and community.

The gatherings are free to attend and typically run for about two hours. Hosted at Aurelio’s, the events combine conversation with activities that can include crafts, brainstorming exercises, and other opportunities for participants to interact.

The gatherings have welcomed women across a wide age range, from teenagers to women in their 80s. That broad mix is intentional.

Generation Woven sees value in bringing generations together. Younger women can connect with women who have different life experiences, while older generations can also learn from perspectives shaped by a very different world.

The events have developed into more than simple conversations. Participants have shared stories, laughed, cried, hugged, formed friendships, and continued their relationships outside the gatherings.

The organizers describe the experience as a way for women to find fellowship, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.

Creating a Place to Connect

The women also recognize the importance of having places where people can gather outside of home and work.

Coffee and Connections provides an opportunity to step away from everyday routines, meet new people, and have face-to-face conversations. For some participants, the gatherings have become a source of encouragement and motivation.

The Generation Woven team has also created a private Facebook group for women who have attended a Coffee and Connections event, allowing those relationships to continue after the gathering ends.

Looking Beyond the Sauk Valley

Generation Woven’s reach has already expanded well beyond the local community. The podcast has viewers in dozens of countries, including a significant international audience.

That global reach has inspired the women to develop an international version of Coffee and Connections. The virtual gathering is designed to bring together people who cannot attend the local events, including viewers from different countries and those who may have difficulty getting out in person.

The format will include opportunities for smaller conversations through breakout rooms, giving participants a chance to interact rather than simply watch a presentation.

The women are also looking toward international travel, including plans involving Australia and South Africa, further expanding the connections that have developed through Generation Woven.

The Next Coffee and Connections

The next local Coffee and Connections gathering is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at Aurelio’s. Participants are encouraged to arrive around 9:30 a.m., with the gathering beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing for approximately two hours.

The September gathering will focus on gratitude and include activities centered around the theme.

Women of all ages are welcome, including teenagers and younger family members when appropriate. The organizers encourage participants to bring the women in their lives, whether that is a sister, mother, daughter, granddaughter, friend, or neighbor.

Generation Woven continues to build its community one conversation at a time, bringing women from different generations and backgrounds together to share experiences, learn from one another, and discover that they are not alone.

For Tasha, Nerina and Judy, the journey has evolved far beyond the original idea of starting a podcast. Generation Woven has become a platform for connection, personal growth, and community, with the potential to reach women both locally and around the world.
