The EP Panther softball team resumed their rain suspended game of a week ago hosting Mendota in Prophetstown Friday and downed the visitors 11-2 behind an excellent pitching performance by Wynn Renkes.

She didn’t allow a run in the 6 innings that were played completing the game. The junior also collected her 100th strikeout of the season.

The game picked up in the bottom of the first and Mendota leading 2-1. Lilly Santos drove in Ava Grawe who was on third base to tie the score 2-2 after one.

In the Panther second, Renkes led off with a single and after two outs her sister Laken singled her in to put the Panthers on top. EP exploded for 5 runs in their third at bat as they took advantage of a couple Trojan errors and singles by Isabella Olvera, Leah Richmond and Laken Renkes helped deliver the damage.

Wynn Renkes continued mowing down Mendota as no base runner reached third base in her last 6 innings that included 9 strikeouts.

The Panthers added some insurance in their fifth inning as Chloe Hamilton, Grawe and Swatos all singled before Olvera doubled clearing the bases.

Laken Renkes had 4 singles to lead the Panther attack while Grawe, Swatos and Olvera each added 2 hits.

The Panthers improve to 15-11 on the season while Mendota falls to 11-17. The Panthers begin their state tournament run Monday hosting Monmouth-Roseville at 4:30 in Prophetstown.
