Hoping to break out of a six game losing streak the Panthers traveled to Mendota on Thursday for a conference match up with the 9-9 Trojans.

Unfortunately, after grabbing 2-run lead in game, EP’s bats went silent as the Trojans rallied for a 7-2 win.

Evan Steimle got the start for EP and collected four strikeouts over the first two innings as neither team mounted a scoring threat.

The Panthers broke through in the third. Alastaire Sweetser led off with a walk, which was followed by three consecutive singles from Richard Carreno, Braedyn Frank, and Gavin Van Dyke scoring two runs.

With two outs in the third the Trojans got on board with a run scoring double to cut the Panther lead in half.

A single followed by a pair of errors allowed the Trojans to tie the game at 2 in the fourth.

Mendota grabbed the lead in the fifth with back-to-back doubles to start the inning to make it 3-2. An infield error and a single gave the home team a two run lead with the fourth hit of the inning making it 6-2. Steimle was able to collect three consecutive outs to end the inning.

The Panther bats went silent as Mendota starting hurler Dan Doyle set EP down in order in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Doyle also powered the Mendota offense with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs.

Mendota added a seventh run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to end the scoring.

Evan Steimle took the loss for the Panthers going 4 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, striking out 7 and walking 1. Gavin VanDyke had 2 hits and an RBI to lead EP. The Panthers managed just 5 hits in the game and committed as many errors. The loss is the seventh in a row for the Panthers.
