A time of visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor JT Bean officiating. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL. A memorial may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
Barbara was born May 28, 1935, in Sterling, IL, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth E. “Betty” (Medema) Schipper. She was educated in the Albany grade schools and graduated from Fulton High School. On July 24, 1953, she married Cornelius “Neal” H. Geerts in Morrison. They shared their lives for over 69 years before his passing on September 16, 2022. Barb devoted her days to caring for her children and home while also helping Neal on the farm. Later, she drove a school bus for Milledgeville. She was a longtime member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, where she was also a member of the Ladies Aid. Barb treasured the time spent playing cards and marbles with friends and creating memories while traveling with Neal. She enjoyed baking and loved sharing her homemade goodies with family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Darla (Ron) Vandermyde of Morrison; two sons, Randy (Elaine) Geerts of German Valley, IL, and Timothy (Dana) Geerts of Freeport, IL; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dave (Darlene) Schipper and Roger Schipper, both of Morrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neal; and two sons, Steven and Larry Geerts, who died in infancy.
