By Sarah Ford, AP Staff Writer

Tampico's next Sesquicentennial Planning Committee meeting is on Wednesday, May 15 at 6 p.m. at the Tampico Area Historical Society. Anyone interested is welcome to come and help plan the town's 150th celebration in 2025.

As part of their event planning, the committee has launched a Tampico Sesquicentennial Logo Design Contest to help celebrate 150 years of Tampico’s rich agricultural foundations, natives, events, and traditions, while looking forward to the future of the community!

Current and former residents of the Tampico, Hahnaman, Hume, and Yorktown area, as well as the Prophetstown, Lyndon, Tampico School District are eligible to enter.

All submissions will be judged by the Sesquicentennial Committee. The judges will select one winner whose work will be displayed on all media and advertisements and used as the official logo for the celebration. The logo will also become part of the town’s permanent art collection. Artists will relinquish all rights to the artwork upon submission.

The logo design winner will also receive a $50 award donated by The People’s National Bank of Tampico.

The entry deadline is July 1, 2024, and the winner will be announced during this year’s Tampico Days celebration July 18-21. More information on the contest is available below.

Also, save the date for the TAHS “file, sort, identify” work day on Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. – noon.
