The Coliseum Museum in Oregon, IL is pleased to announce the opening of the Annual Rock River Valley Painters Guild Plein Air Exhibit featuring 13 artists from across the northern Illinois area, on display from September 2 – October 31.

The art exhibit of 34 individual art pieces offers work in acrylic, mixed media, oil, pastel, and watercolor. Artists participating in the annual show include Carol Bingham, Pam Bradford, Dick Cholke, Janice Conkrite, Charles Gregory, Anne Hilliard, Tom Linden, Nancie King Mertz, Sharon Saponari, Donna Smith, Terry Werntz, Lucinda Winterfield and Leah Zahn.

Awards will be presented by judge Jean Apgar at the reception on October 9th, with music by Grass Attack.

Plein air painting means leaving an indoor studio to paint a landscape or subject directly from life. Before the 19th century, artists used outdoor sketches for reference but finished their paintings indoors. And the invention of transportable paint tubes and box easels made it much easier.

The RRVPG is a not-for-profit organization promoting local art and art education (North Central Illinois).

The Coliseum Museum mission is to present Art, Antiques, Americana and history through permanent and rotating exhibits, workshops, music, theater and more. Additional information can be found on the website, www.cmaaa.org and Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ColiseumMuseum.
